Greenlandic Heritage Week 2025 Celebrates Unity, Culture, and Community in Pituffik
Press Release
From April 17th to 20th, Pituffik Space Base hosted the annual Greenlandic Heritage Week, a vibrant celebration of culture, collaboration, and community spirit. This year’s event brought together locals from Qaanaaq and surrounding settlements, alongside personnel from the United States, Denmark, and Greenland, for a week filled with meaningful exchange and unforgettable experiences.
Organized by the U.S. Space Force and proudly supported by Inussuk A/S, Heritage Week offered a rich and diverse program with something for everyone - spanning religious services, cultural festivities, sporting events, and activities especially for children.
Among the week’s highlights were a cultural potluck dinner, dog sled races across the sea ice, an Easter egg hunt, and the much-loved Dessert Bake Off. Visitors also enjoyed aircraft tours, outdoor games, local handicrafts, and interactive events like “Bring Kids to Work” and a drawing competition. The week culminated in a closing ceremony with raffle prizes, awards, and a festive dinner celebrating the bonds formed throughout the event.
Adam Bentley, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate in Nuuk, attended the celebration and shared:
“Greenland Heritage Week is a story of tradition, community, and cultural celebration between the Pituffik Space Base and the surrounding local communities. It felt like a family reunion between U.S., Greenlandic, and Danish participants. The atmosphere was filled with mutual appreciation and cooperation.”
Mr. Bentley emphasized the cultural importance of the event, saying:
“These experiences grow mutual appreciation and trust. By eating, playing, and spending time together, we gain a better understanding of one another and create lasting connections. I’ll never forget the dogsled race - an exhilarating symbol of unity under the Arctic sky.”
Our intern from Inussuk A/S, contributed to the event as a cultural liaison and interpreter, facilitating communication between base personnel and residents. The efforts ensured that traditions and stories could be shared across languages and backgrounds, reinforcing the spirit of inclusion.
Greenlandic Heritage Week 2025 proved once again that even in the remote Arctic, community thrives through shared traditions, respect, and the joy of coming together. Inussuk is honored to be part of this celebration and extends warm thanks to everyone who contributed to making this event a success.
Thank you for celebrating Greenlandic Heritage Week with us!
